Dalibor Grubačević

Music Composer & Producer

Dalibor Grubačević, born in 1975 in Koprivnica, is a composer of film and concert music, music arranger and producer. He is the winner of several reference national and international awards (Porin in the category Best album for theatre, film and/or TV for the soundtrack of the documentary series In Search of Mark Polo, 2013, and the first prize for best film music at the 19th Days of Croatian Film for Nenad Puhovski's documentary film Zajedno). In addition, he is a versatile artist with diverse musical ethics, whose work and field of activity best describes the reconciliation of the extremes of the "non-classical classicist". When writing music, he uses classical orchestration, but also electronic sounds and instruments. He is a permanent member of the Croatian Society of Composers (HDS) and the Croatian Association of Independent Artists (HZSU).

In addition to film scores and soundtracks for feature films, documentaries, dedicated, commercial and corporate films, Grubačević's interests lead to the field of pop rock and ethnic music as well as classical music. His classical works have been performed all over the world, from Canada, America, Japan, England, Italy, Israel, to the region (Macedonia, Montenegro).

He started composing soundtracks, which have become his most recognizable trademark in his career so far, with the acclaimed work for the children's feature film Ghost in the Swamp by Branko Ištvančić (2006). He continued his collaboration with that director on the soundtrack of the film Bridge at the End of the World (2014), the screen adaptation of Josip Mlakić's award-winning novel, Guardians of the Bridges.

He was born, raised and educated in Koprivnica. He takes his first musical steps in the pop-rock group The Bugs, inspired by the Liverpool shaggy foursome, with whom he will release a studio album in the early 90s. At the end of the 90s, he reoriented himself to the study of classical forms of composing and composition, taking private lessons with prof. Natalia Imbrišak.

In addition to working on film music, Grubačević is also successful in collaboration with numerous domestic and foreign pop musicians for whom he wrote arrangements and orchestrations. He often collaborates with the Zagreb soloists, with whom he created a joint vinyl release published by Aquarius records, and it is also worth mentioning the frequent collaboration with the Zagreb Philharmonic and the Croatian Television Symphony Orchestra.
